Hussain Patel led a strong bowling display with three wickets that was followed by an Adolf Swanepoel half-century as Limpopo made it two wins from two by stunning Gauteng on day two of the RCASA Inland Senior Week in Potchefstroom on Friday.

There were also wins for Mpumalanga, North West and KwaZulu-Natal Coastal, although the biggest surprise came when one of the traditional powerhouses fell to a rising new force in South African cricket.

After winning their opening game on day one, Gauteng were blown away by eight wickets by Limpopo, who bowled first after winning the toss and shot out their opponents for just 150 in 41.2 overs.

Patel claimed three for 34 in 10 overs, while there was good support from his namesake, Sahil Patel (2/11), while Nickie Oosthuizen claimed two for 40.

Thabiso Ngojo top-scored with 43 for Gauteng and there was also 30 from Lungelo Mtshali, but the Johannesburg-based side struggled in the face of some disciplined bowling.

A century opening stand – 101 to be precise – between Katlego Sempe (46 off 34 balls) and Adolf Swanepoel (59 off 67 balls, 8 fours) then helped Limpopo cruise to their target in 22.1 overs as they also moved top of the competition table.

NW also made it two from two after ousting Free State by 66 runs in a match that saw Donovan Nieuwenhuizen claim an outstanding five wickets for the losers.

The medium pacer grabbed five for 25 in 10 overs as his side conceded 250 for eight against the home side, who had openers Ruan van Tonder and Steffan Vorster to thank for their total.

The former top-scored with 85 off 97 balls (12 fours) and the latter recorded 62 off 73 balls (9 fours) in a 143-run opening stand that set them on their way.

In reply, Francois van Rooyen clubbed 62 off 73 balls (7 fours, 3 sixes) but he lacked support in a reply that ended on 184 all out in 46.4 overs.

Phillip Snyman was the pick of the NW bowlers with four for 29.

Elsewhere, Gerrit Cloete went even better than Nieuwenhuizen by nabbing six for 42 as his side too were on the losing end after going down by 119-runs to KZNC.

Batting first, the Durban-based side posted 253 all out – Zakhele Ntuli the highest scorer with 58 off 67 balls (8 fours, 1 six) as Cloete shone in his 9.4 overs.

Ruan van Rensburg then claimed three for 26 to help bundle out NC for 134.

Finally, Elnu Potgieter (3/30) and Koketso Makwela (3/29) shared six wickets as Mpumalanga dismissed KZNI for 148.

Jarred Alder’s sensational 80 off 65 balls (10 fours, 2 sixes) then eased his side to their target in 27.4 overs.
