Gauteng, Free State, North West and Limpopo were all winners on the opening day of the RCASA Inland Senior Week that got underway in Potchefstroom on Thursday.

Limpopo were the narrowest of victors after sneaking home by one wicket over Mpumalanga, while Free State were the biggest ones after thumping Northern Cape by 77 runs.

Seamer Tshepo Masheshemane was the star for the Bloemfontein-based side, claiming four for 27 to help his team bundle out their opponents for just 96 in pursuit of 173 at the Boy’s High ‘A’ field.

After winning the toss and inserting Free State, NC managed to bowl out their neighbours in 37.1 overs – Donovan Nieuwenhuizen top-scoring with 37.

Masheshemane’s excellent four-for, which was well supported by Armand Kemp (3/11), rolled the Cape side over in only 26.4 overs.

For Gauteng, Danie Janse van Vuuren and Vaughn Taylor both claimed three wickets each as they overcame KwaZulu-Natal Inland by 69 runs.

Batting first after winning the toss, Gauteng posted 195 thanks to an unbeaten 51 (68 balls, 5 fours) by Dylan Aucamp.

Van Vuuren then took three for 23 and Taylor three for 22 as KZNI fell for 126 in 40.2 overs. This despite 69 (101 balls, 6 fours, 2 sixes) by Shaun Fourie.

In other action, James du Toit’s unbeaten 106 off 139 balls (7 fours, 1 six) was not enough as Mpumalanga were narrowly edged out by Limpopo.

And in the final game, Zithembile Nyembe took three for 56, while Michael Enslin (60 off 36 balls, 9 fours) and Carl Moralo (60 not out off 77 balls, 5 fours, 1 six) hit half-centuries as NW edged out KwaZulu-Natal Coastal.
