PARADING PINK TO RAISE AWARENESS

Friday’s festivities kicked off with the Pink Walk – a 3km walk around the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital (CMJAH) in an ongoing effort by Cricket South Africa and Central Gauteng Lions to help raise awareness around breast cancer and the early detection thereof.

The Imperial Wanderers Stadium will host the 3rd Momentum One Day International, which is completely sold out with over 28 000 fans expected to #PitchUpInPink and witness South Africa’s Proteas challenge ICC Cricket World Cup champions and ICC World No. 1 ranked team England.

“Today’s walk was part of our ongoing efforts to extend the PinkDay into a Pink Campaign – more events, increased efforts, greater awareness, saving lives. Over 400 people walked today as we were warmly welcomed by the Breast Care facility at the CMJAH ,” says Jono Leaf-Wright, CEO of Central Gauteng Lions. “What a wonderful way and day to celebrate being South African, being healthy and laughing and loving life.”

The walkers were led by the AfriSam cement truck as well as the thundering musical band. A great thanks must be given to sponsors Momentum, 947, Sun International, Imperial, Estee Lauder, The Star and Unjani Clinic: Your presence and partnership is always much valued.
