Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager
Wanele was appointed Head of Marketing, Commercial and Corporate Communications in November 2018. He has over 15 years’ experience in marketing, sales, pricing, commercial/financial management and business development within the media, entertainment and broadcasting industry. Prior to joining the CGL, Wanele ran his own marketing, media and sponsorship consulting firm where he was responsible for developing, acquiring, implementing and managing various sponsorships and clientele. He also previously served as MSG Group Sales Director responsible for generating advertising and sponsorship revenue as well as strengthening the group’s consumer and trade position.
Wanele’s career highlights include heading up SABC’s Commercial Enterprise Business Intelligence unit which was responsible for developing SABC Group Sales commercial strategy. He also served on the Broadcast Research Council of South Africa (BRC SA) board of directors. BRC is mandated to provide credible South African television and radio audience research. Wanele served as a non-executive board member for the creative agency Young & Rubicam South Africa and has also served as a MEC Group board member.
Wanele holds a BCom Hons Degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He has a Bridging Certificate in the Theory of Accounting (University of Johannesburg). He has also studied towards an MBA at Milpark Business School, completing all modules other than the final dissertation paper. His Milpark MBA syndicate group won the ‘Best Innovative Business Plan and Best Detailed Business Plan (Agriculture)’ in the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa Business School Business Plan Competition Challenge in 2013. Wanele is an ardent cricket fan and passionate about using sport as a driver of social change.
