Half centuries from Delano Potgieter and Wihan Lubbe were not enough to see the Imperial Lions to victory over the Warriors at St Georges Park on Friday night.
The Warriors secured a 6-wicket victory over the Imperial Lions thanks to a well rounded team performance which saw Onke Nyaku claim figures of 3/39 and Lutho Sipamla’s figures of 2/29 with the ball. With the bat Eddy Moore (64) and Sinethemba Qeshile (66) scored their half centuries to help the Warriors chase the visitors total.
The Home side won the toss and sent the Imperial Lions to bat first, Ryan Rickelton continued his fine form with the bat as he scored 43 runs from 63 runs despite early wickets falling around him.
Wihan Lubbe (50) and Delano Potgieter (62) came on and played with intent to help the highveld franchise to an underwhelming innings total of 221 which the home side chased with 38 runs to spare.
The visitors found wickets hard to come by as they claimed only four wickets in their defence of the total they had set, three of the four wickets claimed by the Imperial Lions were claimed by spin bowlers including the part-time option of Wihan Lubbe.
The Imperial Lions will not have long to reflect on their loss as they take on the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras in less than 48 hours in their first home match of the Momentum One Day Cup Campaign at Senwes Park at 10:00 on Sunday.
